IconLocal

IconLocals are independently-organized Iconathon workshops held on a local community level. The Noun Project created IconLocals to enable independent organizations and civic minded people to host self-organized workshops and spread the social design movement around the world.

Organizing an IconLocal requires a time commitment and hard work, but is a great opportunity to create a new visual language around a civic topic you’re passionate about!

To ensure that IconLocals are consistently organized to a high standard of quality, all organizers are required to .  There is a fee of $50 to host an IconLocal.  Once approved, The Noun Project will provide you with guidance and materials to help organize your workshop.  Your event will also be added to Iconathon.org. .

IconLocal Rules & Requirement

  • You may only host the IconLocal in accordance with the rules set forth by the Noun Project.

  • Your license enables you to host an IconLocal for the topic, name, date and location you specify.  The license may not be reused or transferred.

  • The topic you select for an IconLocal must have a civic purpose.  Any icons created from an IconLocal must be uploaded to thenounproject.com using a public domain license under the event’s user account.

  • IconLocal events must be free for the public to attend.  The events may not be held to make a profit.  IconLocal events are limited to 50 people.

  • IconLocal may not have religious, politically leaning, extremist, controversial, pornographic, or commercial agendas.

  • The organizer of IconLocal is solely responsible for any costs incurred to run the event. The Noun Project will not reimburse any vendors or compensate any expenses. We encourage finding sponsors for your IconLocal.

  • For consistency of quality, IconLocal events must follow the format set out by The Noun Project, including using the resources & designs provided to approved organizers.

  • IconLocal events may not use the Noun Project’s or Iconathon’s logos.  Only IconLocal logo is permitted for use.


All IconLocal Events must include:

  • Speaker(s) on the event’s topic to educate participants & guide the design process

  • Visual Communication video by the Noun Project

  • Symbol Design video by the Noun Project

  • Design Charrettes – brainstorming & sketching in groups

  • Group Presentations – sharing final sketches & ideas
